There I was, settling into my seat to watch my brother graduate from his Linguistics Masters program when I idly glanced at who the Commencement Speaker was going to be.
And, voila! Jane Espenson. (Turns out she’s an alum.)
She was such a nerd, but it was a brilliant speech.
And then afterwards during reception, having figured she’d already left, there she was, chatting with people and signing autographs. So I left my plate of cake and cup of champagne sitting in the sun to go talk to her.
She was really nice. And when I told her, “Sarah, with an H,” she kind of paused and grinned, “Oh, like Sarah Michelle Gellar!”
Again, nerdy, but cute.
We chatted a bit more about Conversations with Dead People and her new project Husbands, and when I told her I really enjoyed her speech, she kind of laughed with relief and said, “Oh really? Good! I wasn’t sure if people liked it or not!”
Totally just a normal person. *grins*
Anyway, it was just an all-around pretty awesome day, with that being an extra perk to me getting to be totally proud of my brother. :D

That’s not fair. I had no control over it. I didn’t even find out until twenty minutes before it started she was going to be there!
(Besides, you didn’t even know who she was by name when I told you, so :p)
Guess who I met today and had a conversation with and got their autograph?
I know I’ve been not really around lately, but it’s because a lot of busy moving and flurries of activity have been happening!
In the past three days, not only have I been driving up and back down Oregon, but have also driven down to the San Francisco area of California.
But this is still only the beginning!
You see, the lovely ApathyEmpathy and I are going to/already have embarked on a road trip down the West Coast for roughly the next two weeks visiting other tumblr friends and old pals and doing all kinds of touristy stuff I’ve never been able to do by myself before. :D
So excited!
But the main point of this message is this: after this weekend, I will be laptop free for two weeks, and no laptop means I highly doubt I’ll be too much of a presence on tumblr.
I will, however, have the next two evenings with my laptop, so hopefully I can make up for some of that absence. Somehow. Jury’s still out on how I will achieve that, but I’ll try!
